Introduction of the Red Wing Irish Setter

In 1950 the American company Red Wing Shoes created a boot designed specifically for sportsmen made with leather that was tanned with the bark of the sequoia tree which giving it an orange color. These boots were named the Irish Setter and gained immediate popularity. After almost 70 years Red Wing re-launched the Irish Setter as a limited edition. They developed the Irish Setter in two different styles; Red Wing Shoes 9875D Moc Toe Irish Setter Gold and Red Wing Shoes 9866E Pecos Irish Setter Gold. Both Red Wing Irish Setter boots are now available in a limited run and true collectors items.

Red Wing Shoes 9875D Moc Toe Irish Setter Gold

The Red Wing Moc Toe is a boot with a white polyurethane outsole. It’s a style originally made for sportsmen but it worked equally well on farms and in factories due to that traction tred sole with its minimal tread that sheds mud and provides the underfoot comfort the work day required. The crescent-shaped stitching on the toe was inspired by the construction of the shoes, or ‘moccasins‘ originally worn by the North American Algonquin Indians.

Red Wing Shoes 9866E Pecos Irish Setter Gold

Red Wing Shoe Company had an office in Dallas, Texas as early as 1923 to serve the unique market of ranchers, cowboys and oil drilling roughnecks in the region. At the time, most of these workers wore pull-on riding boots, often with decorative stitching, and Red Wing responded with one of its own in the 1930’s. The Red Wing Pecos boots earned their name after a town in Texas and it evolved into one of their most popular styles, thanks to its simple design, comfortable fit, and rugged good looks. The Red Wing Pecos is now seen on hardworking feet from coast to coast, both ends of the Mississippi, and everywhere in between. Call it a cowboy boot, with a Minnesota twist.
