The Story Behind The Forge Denim Brand

Forge Denim was founded by the duo Richard Mappin and Alex Mir. Richard has been collecting jeans for over two decades with an encyclopaedic knowledge about all things of denim. Alex has more a retail background, he has worked with and learnt from many of the iconic denim brands in the industry. Their Forge partnership is based on friendship which came after hours of conversations about making the most perfect pair of jeans. Their Forge denim brand is based on principles as the craftsmanship that is part of the denim heritage, but with a modern approach in design and fit. Their aim is to create the best jeans that they could, not the best jeans for a set price. All the Forge clothing are manufactured in the UK using companies that they selected for their quality of their work, and the care that they showed towards their staff and the environment. Everything in the total chain of production has to be of the highest standard.

Forge denim is based in Sheffield, the city where both founders grew up and where they still live. Funny fact is that the branded steel buttons for the Forge jeans are made by a company located in the same street where Alex was born. Sheffield is a city of makers, which values craftsmanship, plain speaking and treating people fairly. Forge denim reflects the same values.

Jeans are at the heart of the Forge denim brand, but their first collection also includes t-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets which have been designed with the same care and attention to detail and which work well together.

Forge Denim Slim Taper (FD002) 14oz Redline Selvedge

The highlighted jeans here below is the Forge FD002 style made of 14oz selvedge fabric. The FD002 is based on their slim style but with a little more room in the thigh and a subtle taper to the hem. The raw selvedge denim has been sourced from the iconic Kurabo mills in Japan. Forge offers the FD002 in three weights; a 12oz stretch denim which provides additional comfort with excellent shape retention, a 13oz fabric for all year round comfort and a 14oz version that will age and fade beautifully.

The full details of the Forge Denim FD002, 14oz redline selvedge are;

  • Steel buttons are manufactured in Sheffield.
  • Pocket linings are made from an organic herringbone cloth woven in Lancashire.
  • The leather patches are sourced locally.
  • Most sizes have a 14″ hem width, which works well with any footwear from workboots to trainers.
  • Forge have used a one piece fly for a more tailored finish.
  • Main pockets have been made a little deeper so that you can carry your smartphone/wallet securely.
  • The coin pocket has an angled opening for easy access.
  • Back pockets are lined, a small touch of class.
