Originally Made For Carpenters And Field Workers
Le Mont St Michel was founded in 1913 in Pontorson near the famous monument. It was originally a workwear brand made for carpenters and field workers (farmers) that needed sturdy clothes in the west part of France, particularly in Brittany.
Started As A Family Workshop
When they started the brand it was a family workshop and became soon bigger during the 1920s, and 1930s. They had a lot of attention with their brilliant, and outstanding, advertisements. Especially for that time they did something extraordinary. So, soon they became one of the most prominent brands in Western France.
Functional And Simple Designs
The focus and core of the brand are that they create functional and simple designs. They offered at the time a very wide range of products as their legendary worker jacket, which is made from heavy Moleskin fabric. Also, shirts for schoolboys, corduroy trousers, and even hunting clothes were part of the collection.
Made For All Kind Of Crafts
Since the beginning, Le Mont Michel’s clothes are made for all different kinds of crafts of the week. From working on the fields, hunting, family get-togethers, school, and so on. Their clothes were made in different colors, all for different kinds of trades.
Their clothes are made with elements that refer to be hard-wearing and functional: special pockets, stitching, rivets, buckles with exclusive patents for different trades, and occasions.
Often Copied, Never Matched
The brand is during all these years often copied, but the Le Mont St Michel garments set a new quality standard which made them famous and sought after by numerous vintage garments and workwear collectors all around the world.
In 1998 the brand was taken over by Alexandre Milan who turned it into a more urban and modern fashion label. The functionality and workwear approach is still key to the brand.
Nowadays the collections contains next to their legendary workwear jackets also t-shirts, trousers, sweats, jackets, jumpsuits, accessories, and so on. So, a total-look collection.
