The Candiani Denim Store
The Italian Candiani denim mill was founded in 1938 in Robecchetto con Induno. A small town located about 40 km from the center of Milan. Over the years, they have settled internationally as a top-notch denim manufacturer working for a wide range of (denim) brands. In 2019, they opened their special Candiani Denim Store in Milan. It is located in the area known as Cinque Vie. A vibrating area that is full of art galleries and craft, clothing, and design stores.
The store represents the mill’s showpieces that are made in collaboration with their partners. Expect special limited editions, all made with outstanding Candiani denim fabrics. Next to that, a curated selection of high-quality made brands are available in the store that are complement to the partner collections.
Create Your Own Pair Of Jeans
In 2021, just two years after Candiani opened its doors to its unique retail space, it added its urban micro-factory. At this place within the store, a mini jeans factory, you can create your ultimate dream pair of jeans. The jeans will be produced in the most sustainable way possible and they also offer a repair service through the entire life cycle of their jeans.
How does it work to create your own pair of jeans? Simple, you just follow these three steps in the store;
- Step 1: Choose your fit. They offer three women and three men fits which you can choose from.
- Step 2: Choose your color and the wash. Pick the color and wash you prefer on your Candiani denim fabric.
- Step 3: Choose your accessories. Select your buttons, rivets, patches, and threads.
The Benzak Collaboration
At the Candiani Denim Store, they highlight each time special releases and last time their collab with the Dutch denim brand Benzak was on display. The collaboration was themed ‘Limited Edition Selvedge‘, featuring a series of six specially made garments. All the items are made from upcycled and surplus selvedge denim fabrics from the denim mill.
The collection blends selvedge denim heritage and upcycling sustainability. The collab collection contains a chino, two overshirts, a brand-new Type II jacket in two fabrics, and a new iteration of Benzak’s recent collab with Bonne Suits.
More about this special collection can be seen here.
The Blue Blanket Collaboration
Next to Benzak’s collaboration, the Italian denim brand Blue Blanket was shown in the denim store as well. This capsule collection between Blue Blanket and Candiani, named Riserva, includes the replicas of six garments (one jacket and five pairs of jeans). The original historical denim pieces are collected by the brand owner Antonio di Battista. He found these blue treasures during his many travels to Europe, the United States, and Japan.
The replicated items for Riserva are made using Candiani’s selvedge fabrics. The styles within the collection are originally from 1890, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940 and 1950. All special workwear styles were replicated using raw (unwashed) fabrics so you can achieve your own personal wear patterns.
