The C&A Factory For Innovation In Textiles Facility
The C&A FIT (Factory for Innovation in Textiles) production facility opened its doors back in 2021. This special Factory for Innovation in Textiles location is set up to produce sustainable pairs of blue jeans. Jeans that are made from more sustainable materials through a process that includes greater automation and digitization. This European project is located in the Monforts Quartier in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
Reshaping The Denim Industry
C&A is known for its 1,300+ stores in 17 European countries and more than 27,000 employees. They’re one of Europe’s leading fashion retailers. Every day, C&A welcomes millions of visitors to its stores in Europe and its online shop. With this special FIT production location, C&A wants to reshape the denim industry standard by which fashion is produced through the latest technology and further innovation. It’s the company’s contribution to creating a more digital and more sustainable textile production and supply chain.
About The FIT Facility
The C&A FIT facility measures 3,300 m2 and is a full production plant with around 100 employees in the sewing and laundry departments. The recruited staff includes professionals from the local textile industry and professionals with immigration backgrounds who have previously worked in the textiles industry in 12 different countries, e.g. Syria, and Iran. On top of that, locals who have received professional on-the-job training.
40 Steps Are Needed For One Single Pair
At the FIT facility, each pair of jeans is cut, sewn, and finished, all under one roof. Each pair went through ca. 40 steps spread over 80 workstations. The finishing part is operated by its next-door partner 140Fahreinheit GmbH. More about this finishing house in a previous article here.
New Digital Technologies And Automation
This special production facility applies new digital technologies and automation. A particularly resource-saving and CO2-free production process, as well as short distances between the points of production and sale. To stock shelves in stores according to our customers’ needs, items sold today can be delivered within a few days.
The Forever Denim Collection
At the C&A FIT facility, they produce their ‘Forever Denim‘ collection. This collection contains around eight pairs of denim, four for women and four for men. The availability within the collection divers from light colored denim to mid and dark pairs of jeans. All are proudly made in Europe with certified bio cotton fabrics from the Italian Candiani denim mill.
