Ready For Pre-Orders
The new Runabout Brander denim jacket style is 100% American-made and based on the legendary Type-1. It’s made with American woven selvedge fabric by Proximity Manufacturing Company. The jacket itself is also manufactured in the U.S., and it’s now available for pre-order.
The Proximity Manufacturing Company
As said, the new Runabout denim jacket is made with fabric from the Proximity Manufacturing Company. This is a Greensboro, NC-based textile producer that weaves cloth on vintage Draper X-3 fly shuttle looms on the original hardwood floors inside the White Oak Cotton Mill, formerly occupied by Cone Denim.
The fabric is a 100% US-grown, ringspun cotton yarn which is dipped nine times to achieve the ultimate blue color. It’s a 9% indigo warp shade known as Canyon Blue and is filled with yarn with a low twist count and woven using a high pick per inch count. This results in densely-woven denim with a steep twill line.
The Features Of The Jacket
As the Brander jacket is a Type 1 style you can expect all the unique features of this silhouette as one chest pocket with flap, pleats on the fronts, cinch back on the back, laurel leaf buttons which refer to the 1930s and 1940s, and Tobacco-colored thread.
The Loomstate Fabric
The fabric of the Runabout Brander jacket weighs 12.2oz per square yard, and it is both unsanforized and Loomstate. This true heritage denim fabric develops a soft hairy hand with wear over time. The fabric undergoes no finishing, known as sanforizing, where the cloth is mechanically shrunk to prevent any size distortion in mechanical washing and drying systems.
As a final note, because the Brander is made of the highly coveted inaugural yardage from Proximity Manufacturing Company, they will use every inch possible, including areas of the fabric with imperfections that may otherwise be discarded.
Loomstate Or Pre-Shrunk
When ordering a Brander jacket you can choose between a Loomstate or a pre-shrunk version. The pre-shrinking process is very involved and uses several distinct processes to achieve a true-to-fit size. As this process is more labor-intensive, there is an additional $50 fee for that version of the Brander.
Support American Denim Mill Legacy
With the purchase of the Runabout Brander jacket, you will help to sustain the American shuttle loom woven denim production legacy as 20% of each purchase will support Proximity Manufacturing Company and their work within the W.O.L.F (White Oak Legacy Foundation) program.
The W.O.L.F. foundation is working to preserve the history and heritage of denim and jean manufacturing in Greensboro, North Carolina. They formed a group of board members that will run the foundation. Each of them has different tasks to achieve their mission goals, so the rich history behind the state of North Carolina’s textile industry is never forgotten.
