An Exclusive Collaboration Jacket
The Berlin-based store Burg & Schild is carrying the finest menswear since 2007. All the brands in their store are based on quality and tradition. It’s the ultimate retail destination for idealists and everyone that is dedicated to denim.
Now, they worked together with the Japanese denim brand Momotaro on a very special and exclusive collaboration; Momotaro x Burg & Schild MA-1 Indigo Dobby Jacket. The goal of the collaboration was not only to celebrate the long-standing relationship between Momotaro and Burg & Schild but also to honor the relationship between iconic Americana garments and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
The Origin Of The MA-1 Jacket
The Burg & Schild x Momotaro limited-edition collaboration jacket is a bomber style. It’s based on the traditional MA-1 version which was issued to the United States Air Force and Navy Pilots in the late 1950s. Soon after the launch of the jacket, the bomber style was adopted to the streets and became a cornerstone in the history of menswear. The practical and functional design element made the bomber a timeless and comfortable jacket style. The fact that the bomber is such an American icon, next to blue jeans, it was a natural step to use this for an exciting collaboration.
The Fit Of The Jacket
For the collaboration, Burg & Schild and Momotaro tweaked the original OG MA-1 a bit as the cut is slightly slimmer. This is to give it a more contemporary silhouette while retaining all the features and details that make a Bomber a Bomber. The collab jacket features knit cuffs, collar and hem, zip closure, handwarmer pockets, and most importantly, the zipped utility pocket on the left sleeve. All faithfully reproduced in that Dobby Sashiko.
The neck label of the jacket shows the collaboration between both, with the Burg & Schild logo, and Momotaro’s peach boy dressed as a knight.
The Fabric Of The Collab Jacket
The jacket is made with a 100% cotton Dobby Sashiko fabric developed by Momotaro in their very own Collect Mill. The mill is known for top-notch fabric. The weave, the depth, and the texture of the material combined with the deep indigo tones create a fabric that fades incredibly over time, just like jeans. So, it was easy for both to pick this fabric to develop this unique version of the MA-1 bomber jacket. It’s now available in a limited run at Burg & Schild here.
