Clockworks Press Releases Limited Edition Denim Tote Bag

Clockworks Press is founded by Holly E. Brown in 2016. She’s an artist and printmaker with more than two decades of experience. Now she’s releasing a limited edition tote bag, named W28. This special bag was already available on pre-order since last October and will be shipped out this month.

The Clockworks Press W28 tote bag is the second bag designed and printed by the founder of the brand. Each bag is manufactured locally by Park Avenue Trimming in Manhattan. It’s produced in a limited quantity of 25 bags in total.

Details Of The W28 Denim Tote Bag

The W28 tote bag is made of water-resistant #10 duck original Martexin wax canvas and repurposed denim from jeans (each piece of denim is unique and printed a blue shade). Next to these, repurposed U.S. Navy camouflage shirts are also used for the tote bags. This camouflage digital blue pattern was discontinued by the U.S. Navy in October 2019 and is no longer worn by the military.

The leather details on the bag are natural vegetable tanned. The closure has a YKK metal two-tone zipper with leather riveted pull. Each bag is hand-signed and numbered on the inside on a Tyvek label.

The Story Behind The W28 Name

The W28 name stands for West 28th Street, New York City. This is the location of the water tower featured on the tote. However, if you go to West 28th and Broadway you can no longer see the tower. In 2019, a hotel began construction on the same site and has completely blocked any street-level visibility of the water tower. Luckily, Holly had photographed the water tower before this happened. This is the hand-carved collagraph image that was press printed on repurposed denim for every W28 Tote.

Holly was always been intrigued by how the city is constantly changing, With the tote bag she wanted to document the water tower as a symbol of strength in a world that is constantly in flux. A water tower holds one of our most valuable natural resources and one we need to protect.
