A Reputation For Innovation

Founded in New York City in 1945, in its early years, Copen earned a reputation for innovation, which it has continued more recently, especially when it comes to sustainability. They’re the first company to use Unifi Reprieve in pocketing in 2013, and the extensive sustainable range continues to evolve year after year.

The Start Of Copen’s Sustainable Mission


The Encore pocketing collection was the start of Copen’s sustainable mission, focusing initially on recycled polyester. Over time, organic cotton and recycled polyester blends have been developed, and more recently recycled cotton and recycled polyester have been added. Today, Copen’s extensive Encore pocketing qualities are used by many leading global denim brands and clothing retailers.

Reduce The Consumption Of Water


At a time when many leading denim brands are embracing technology to reduce the consumption of water during the production of jeans, Copen created the Aquafree pocketing range. In a strategic partnership with a leading filament yarn producer, a new Vigor yarn was developed resulting in the production of 5 new Aquafree pocketing qualities.

Reduce The Persistence Of Microfibre Pollution


“Made to last” doesn’t have to mean ‘here forever’ and one of Copen’s most exciting new developments is a range of pocketing using CICLO fibers, which reduce the persistence of microfibre pollution in the oceans and plastic accumulation in landfills by mitigating degradation time.

A Natural Resistance To Bacteria


Hemp has been used in fabric production for more than 5,000 years, but only recently have Copen chosen to harness its natural sustainable properties. Using almost no water during its growth and requiring very few, if any pesticides, has a natural resistance to bacteria and is a fibre that is very easy to process. Three times stronger than cotton, it is breathable, with inherent wicking properties.
