The Spielzeug Welten Museum in Basel, Switzerland, opened last Saturday its doors for the new expo about denim. In this exhibition, they feature around 125 unique and rare denim objects.
Visitors of the expo are going through a time journey of the fascinating denim fabric material. You can walk through the world of denim. You will see how versatile this fabric is, and how you can use it on so many different levels.
Created In Collaboration
This special denim exhibition was created in collaboration with Liza Snook from the Virtual Shoe Museum in The Hague, The Netherlands. For the expo, they succeeded in collecting and bringing together items on loan from various European museums, private collectors, and installations from galleries and artists all over the world. The exhibition can only be seen in this form in Basel.
Content Of The Expo
Denim became essential in everyone’s wardrobe. It became a true classic icon that has a very long history. This expo shows it all, how it started, how many (fashion) designers and artists discovered the material, but also the versatility and history of this popular material.
It includes paintings by The Master of the Blue Jeans from the end of the late 17th century, jeans, denim jackets, bags, shoes, furniture, and everyday objects, as well as sculptures or installations such as The Secret Garden by Ian Berry, the Panthers by Afran, and work from artist Anna Weber. Some very rare historical pieces from collector Viktor Fredback, from the book True Fit, can be seen too. And, also modern denim brands as Endrime and Benzak are inlcuded.
