Experience And Meeting Place
In 2016, Johan Åberg founded Dyeforindigo after working for nearly 20 years in the fashion industry. After seeing tons of huge quantities and poor quality made garments he opened a store called Göteborg Vintage in 2014. He used all his experience and created a meeting place where the focus was on craftsmanship, quality, and unique pieces of clothing. The items were mostly vintage denim, workwear, army surplus, and local brands too. With this approach, he made a far step away from his previous work within the industry.

The Start Of Dyeforindigo
After two years of running the store, he went deeper into authentic craftsmanship with a focus on indigo. So, it felt natural to start Dyeforindigo to host workshops about indigo dyeing, Sashiko mending, but also giving lectures and doing collaborations with brands and people to create the most beautiful indigo dyed products.
The 120 square meters studio from Johan is based in Göteborg, Sweden, and is filled with books, textiles, and other unique blue objects. The place where he celebrates and embraces the slow movement.
The Workshop And Lectures
With the workshops and lectures, Johan hopes to inspire people to reduce, reuse and recycle. A mindset that is becoming bigger and bigger, also due to the current global Covid situation.
During his workshop, you will learn everything about the authentic indigo and Shibori techniques. And, also how to mend your favorite pair of blue jeans. Next to his workshops, he has also been invited by schools and various fashion brands to share his inspiring story and to teach them everything about indigo. Since the start, he has managed over 100+ workshops, and his indigo journey is growing each day.
