Hand Made Cyanotype Indigo Bag By Toile De Chine
Roos Brancovich is making unique one of a kind products with the authentic Cyanotype technique. One of those products is this oversized xxl tote bag which is perfect for going to the beach, holiday, shopping or a weekend out. Also, the design on this huge tote bag is made with a Cyanotype blueprint. The design is made with flowers mostly from her neighborhood in Amsterdam.
The Authentic Cyanotype Technique
The Cyanotype technique was used in 1800 to make blueprints, they were the first photocopies. The chemical is applied to paper or fabric and needs to dry in the dark since it’s UV sensitive. When it’s dry Roos puts negatives during the process directly on the fabric. With her UV light box she exposed the fabric with flowers and after washing a beautiful blue color appears. The covered area stays white and the unique blueprint is made.
Cyanotype is known of it’s colorfastness, so it will not discolor so quick. But when it happens, put the bag in a dark room for a while and slowly it’s original color will come back again.

Each Bag Is Unique
The fabric of the bag is a rich 100% herringbone cotton twill. The bag is stitch with a machine and measures 60 cm deep and 82 cm width. Due the Cyanotype technique each bag will be an one of a kind, as it’s impossible to recreate the exact design. With usage the bag will lose a bit of their blueness, which make it even more beautiful.
