Handmade Toile De Chine Items by Roos Brancovich
Roos Brancovich is a multi-talented creative in the industry. After her graduation at the Dutch education HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) she worked as a designer for International denim companies as Diesel, Kuyichi and Scotch & Soda. The last five years she was the co-founder and co-owner of the Black Rabbit brand which made extraordinary pieces for men. The brand was a perfect mix between military, vintage and sportswear.
Since 2012 Roos is collecting, repairing and making the coolest blue indigo items. She’s addicted to French workwear and Japanese fabrics. From old rags of denim and boro she creates the most beautiful pieces as pillows, blankets, scarves and so on. Lately she’s making a lot of quilted items and handmade Cyanotype cards. These Cyanotype cards are all one offs, which makes them even more special. For the cards she’s using cotton paper from India.
The Authentic Cyanotype Technique
The Cyanotype technique was used in 1800 to make blueprints, they were the first photocopies. The chemical is applied to paper or fabric and needs to dry in the dark since it’s UV sensitive. When it’s dry she puts negatives, but mostly flowers from her neighbourhood in Amsterdam, directly on the cards. With her UV light box, but the sun will do the work natural also, she exposed the cards with flowers and after washing a beautiful blue colour appears. The covered area stays white and your copy is made. The process is authentic and the outcome is really nice. Roos added her latest Cyanotype creations in her Etsy shop, so they’re now available.
