Lecture About Hemp
Denim multitasker Mohsin Sajid from Endrime combines his design work with being active as a denim historian, and collector. He’s also doing a lot of inspirational lectures about denim, and new technologies within the industry. Recently he gave a long lecture from an hour plus about the history of hemp and its future in the denim industry for Fashion Open Studio.
All You Need To Know
Fashion Open Studio organizes presentations, talks, and workshops with emerging designers. In the lecture, Mohsin is talking about the history of hemp, the main differences between cotton and hemp, the usage of hemp in production, its fibers, and so on.
Most of the mills are mixing hemp with Tencel Lyocell, Linen to try and make a 100% non-cotton garment. Some mills don’t have the right technologies in-house and mix hemp with polyester.
The production of hemp yarns is still quite expensive, but there are so many pros about using it as its antimicrobial, antibacterial, it also vacuums toxins (chemicals and heavy metals) out of the soil and groundwater. And, it produces more oxygen too. One acre of hemp produces more oxygen than 25 acres of forest.
