Denim Tailor Paul Kruize
Paul Kruize is a (denim) tailor from The Netherlands who has been running his atelier since 2013. For 10+ years, Paul has been creating bespoke pairs of blue jeans (and much more) for clients all over the globe. As a one-man army strong team, Paul uses only one machine, making one pair of jeans at a time. All his creations are specially made to the needs and specifications of his clients in order to create a unique dream pair. Always based on denim fabrics, trims, and threads that are selected by the clients. The outcome is bespoke jeans, that stand apart from mass production. Made to last. Made to wear day in and day out for many years to come.
Education Denim Videos
Four years ago, Paul Kruize started to share his passion, and above all, his denim knowledge as a tailor. He decided to create videos together with filmmaker Richard Bussink. One of his videos, ‘How to make a pair of jeans‘ has reached already more than 1.8 million (!) views.
The One Piece Fly Construction Video
Now, a follow-up to these educational denim videos has just been online. This time, Paul Kruize shares step-by-step the construction of the one-piece selvedge fly. This fly construction is also known as the continuous fly. Originally, this fly construction was originally patented by David Neustadter in 1877. Although this is a clean and simple way of making a button fly, it is not so common to use within the denim industry. You can simply recognize a one-piece fly construction when you unbutton your fly to see if it’s produced out of just one piece of denim fabric.
Although Paul Kruize had been using this special construction already for a few years, the problem was that he needed to cut in the fabric. Recently he analyzed the construction in a more recent, improved version where no cut is needed. This makes it an even stronger construction. This method was introduced by denim designer Mohsin Sajid and Blackhorse Lane Ateliers.
