The 150 Years Celebration
This year, Levi’s celebrates its 150th anniversary since it patented the legendary rivet (more about the history of the rivet here) on the 20th of May in 1873 together with tailor Jacob Davis. The rivet patent is secured as a patent number: 139,121. It’s ‘an improvement in fastening pocket openings’.
For the celebration, Levi’s looks back to its long history and therefore highlights special stories that are attached to it’s flagship 501 jeans style. The 501 has been worn by millions of world changers, daredevils, adventurers, thinkers, icons, and creatives during all those years, and as a celebration, The first stories are launched, which can be seen here.
The Levi’s 501 Interview
Media from all over the world are covering this special 150th anniversary year, and so does the Dutch newspapers. I’m proud to be interviewed for this celebration of the American Levi’s denim brand too. The interview was published on the 15th of February, 2023 in many (national) newspapers such as Algemeen Dagblad. Together with Roger Kenbeek, owner of the vintage denim Mood Indigo store in Amsterdam, and Ninke Bloem, Fashion Curator, we were asked to share some 501 power.
