Simone Lombardo, founder Iron & White.
Can you introduce yourself, who are you and what are you doing?
My name is Simone Lombardo and I was born in Milan, Italy. I have done a lot of different jobs in my life, so I have thousands of different experiences. I like to be multifaceted and to spread in several fields most of the time completely antithesis of each other, I define myself as a sort of sailor constantly looking for new seas to sail and to conquer.
How did you come up with the idea to start the brand?
The idea of creating my own brand has followed me constantly in the last 7 years. I’ve always wanted to share my vision of fashion and style but above all fitting. I have always found it difficult in finding clothes that would dress how I prefer, so with shapes that I like, but above all with the style that I have always looked for. So why not create and realize something that would fully bring my vision of ‘beauty’?
I made my dream reality! I did spend almost a year in studying fabrics, shapes, materials, and stitching and with all these information and vision I created my first shirt, the 13oz 4028 Dark Indigo Western Shirt that fully encloses my vision of style, fashion, and fitting.
What is the core idea or philosophy behind the brand?
The mother vision of my project is that I want to make high-quality items, no mass production or large quantities, no industrial production, but hand made items that last long. All my products are produced by a single skilled tailor who makes the pieces individually, giving them uniqueness. Every piece of mine is living his own life, there will never be a piece of mine that is completely the same and every piece of mine will never be completely perfect. Bringing and even showing some imperfection adds absolutely value to the product.
Each product is created on demand for the individual customer, so each item is almost a sartorial product.
What kind of products do you make?
For the moment I’m absolutely focused on the production of very heavy denim shirts made of 13oz and 15oz fabrics. This because shirts are a great passion of me, so for the moment I prefer these type of styles. T-shirts and small leather goods are also products that interest me a lot and I will soon produce these too.
How did you entered the denim game?
I think I have always been part of it indirectly and directly. I always had, and still have, a great passion for rock music and motorcycles and the common element that has distinguish every sub music culture and it was not the denim! Denim belongs to the art and culture of our life.
Can you share a bit of the denim shirt highlighted here in the interview?
The Western shirt is made of 13oz raw dark indigo, sanforized, fabric. It’s 100% produced in Milan, Italy. The fitting of the shirt is slim fit, like most of the authentic Western shirts.
What can we expect in the future of the brand? Are you also going to make jeans for example?
I am a small brand and I want to stay that way, so what is more important for me is to concentrate on a mix of quality and respectability in the sector and with my clients, without necessarily aiming too big numbers…Of course, jeans will be the next main item in my collection.
Anything else that you want to share?
The next steps will be finding local retailers that fit with the Iron & White philosophy. We hope to link with people who are not a business addict but basically denim lovers, so let’s see what will happens in the next upcoming months.
