Long John X Blue Print Amsterdam Collab Indigo Shirt
A few months ago I launched a new batch of my Long John t-shirts. This batch is made in two crewneck versions; White and Navy. The White version has a blue chest and back print, while the Navy version has only a white chest print. Check both shirts out in the Webshop.
Collaboration With Blue Print Amsterdam
I collaborate with Blue Print Amsterdam for a special Indigo edition. Blue Print Amsterdam was founded by Celia Geraedts, a graphic artist who shares their love about handmade techniques in her designs. Celia creates unique bespoke print designs for fashion and interior brands. Her specialism is indigo dyeing and she has developed some innovative green print solutions.
The Collab Shirt
The Long John X Blue Print Amsterdam collab shirt is made in a very limited run. An indigo version of the regular White Long John shirt. It’s a 100% cotton shirt from the Kariban brand and weights 180 grams. It has a small blue LJ chest print and on the back a large one.
The screenprint is done by hand in The Netherlands and is also indigo dyed in The Netherlands by Blue Print Amsterdam. The blue, from the print, in combination with the indigo blue dye is simply beautiful!
Natural Indigo Dyed by Blue Print Amsterdam
The natural indigo, Indigofera Suffruticosa, is coming from Central America. The shirts are dyed 3 times by hand in top notch indigo to get the right blue colour. A very time consuming process. Each shirt takes around 45 minutes to achieve the right colour. After dyeing they were put in a vinegar bath and rinsed after in water, so they won’t ‘bleed’ anymore. They’re ready to wear! Don’t wait too long as the shirts are made in an extremely limited run. Get yours here.
The process of indigo dyeing by Blue Print Amsterdam is pictured by the talented photographer Koen Kuik.
First the shirts are washed to absorb the indigo better.
Than the shirts are dipped slowly into the indigo vat.
When the shirts are dyed in indigo and get out of the vat they first look a bit greenish. Later it oxidizes more into blue. This is magical!
In total the shirts are dyed 3 times in indigo to achieve the right blue colour.
After dyeing they were put in a vinegar bath and rinsed with water, so they won’t ‘bleed’ anymore.
