Meet Benjamin Woodhouse (Clobber Calm Store)

The story of Benjamin, or Ben, Woodhouse is an extraordinary one. It’s a great example of how you can grow from an active Instagrammer into a retailer. Ben had always a huge passion for clothing. He started to work at a vintage clothing wholesaler where they sold a lot of old Levi’s jeans. He came up with the idea to share the blue denim pearls at work through Instagram.

The people at Levi’s noticed his updates and re-posted it, which gave him a lot of followers. This was also the period when Ben dived more into the raw denim scene. The scene that is focussed on authentic produced selvedge jeans. Within a short time, his account reached more than 70K active followers. This leads him to open his own brick and mortar store in Sheffield, UK.

Unique Store Events

The store is situated in a very cool place where he has all the time to have a chat with his customers. People that live the same lifestyle as Ben. It’s a sort of a second home where people can hang around and have a cup of coffee or a cold beer(s). And a perfect place for unique store events.

Every now and then he’s organizing unique store events with (denim) workshops and hang-outs as the recently first edition of the UK Denim Hang. This to share his (denim) passion and get people in contact with his business, products and likeminded people.

Talk with Ben

During the last edition of the Bluezone show in Munich, I sat down together with Thomas Stege Bojer from Denimhunters to talk with Ben about his success story. How he started, how he’s using Instagram nowadays for his business and of course about our passion for denim in general.

Enjoy watching the story of Benjamin Woodhouse from Clobber Calm.
