What’s your favorite brand: Levi’s Vintage Clothing.
What’s your favorite denim brand: Again, Levi’s Vintage Clothing, my overall best brand!
What’s your favorite footwear brand: Hard to say… Red Wing and Converse are both high on my list. I guess for the summer it’s definitely Converse and for the winter you just need a couple of Red Wing boots to stay warm. But then again, you can never go wrong with Red Wing no matter what kind of weather it is.
How long are you collecting: I’ve been collecting for about 4 years now. First it started with regular denim products and accessories, but when I started to evolve as a collector so did my taste. I can now say for sure that I’m specialised in Levi’s Vintage Clothing (from here on LVC) and true vintage pieces from the Levi’s brand.
How many items are there in your collection: This is a nice opportunity the count all the stuff that I got laying around! First things first, it’s not about how many items you have, it about what you really wear, and I try to wear all my stuff (at least once) but then again, there are always the same items you grab first. In the beginning my collection was almost entirely denim minded. The blues is still blue, but nowadays I try to focus on the more special pieces of a collection.
- LVC jackets I own: 36
- LVC leather jackets: 10
- LVC denim: 45
- Red Wing: 14
- Converse: 7
This is the foundation I built my collection around. A lot of tees and shirt I got (also underwear and socks), but this is day-to-day wear.

How or why did you became a collector: I have been collecting my whole life, as a kid I was totally obsessed with Jurassic park and I mowed the lawn of every house in the neighbourhood so I could buy more dinosaurs.
A few years back I started to collect Bob Dylan records and cassette tapes, next to LVC this is my favourite thing to spend my time on. I have every record at least once or in different pressings. Cassette tapes of Dylan are hard to come by, so whenever I stumble upon one I need to have it. My interest are now going towards vintage kids denim pieces, I don’t have any kids but you better be prepared I guess…
What’s the best thrill about collecting? When you know the mailman can arrive anytime soon… And then ripping the package to shreds, looking at it… and then throwing on the pile with the rest of the stuff…The moment you scored a piece for a good price and are about to close the deal. Or finding something that you where looking for so long.
The thrill goes away eventually, and I think that’s the moment to sell stuff you bought for a good price, make some profit on it and then spend it on something better, something you truly desire, in that phase of collecting I find myself right now.
What is your favorite item en why: That is my Levi’s Made & Crafted spring/summer 2013 “Fringed suede” leather jacket (see photo). This is the pieces that got me into this mess in the first place. When I’m not wearing it, it hangs on my living room wall for decoration. This is pure craftsmanship and the detail is amazing. Also the patina that the honey yellow cowhide develops is so rad.
For the number two I have to go for my Red Wing Skytrooper boots I got via an auction in WW2 military gear (see photo).
What’s your best bargain in your collection: That is a tough one… I’m proud of every single item I own. I almost buy nothing I would not wear, but to choose one, I would go for: Levi’s Vintage Clothing, Fringed western deerskin coat (see photo).
On a local website called “Marktplaats” (dutch version of Ebay) I bought that bad boy, new, unworn and with tags still attached for €140,- and that also included a silver LVC bolo tie and a sac coat. Shipping was not included ; ) ! Because I work for Levi’s Jeans I can check the prices in our computer system, scanning the deerskin jacket I found out that the retail value was over a €1000,- making this the best freaking deal I got so far!
Which item was the hardest to get and/or the most valuable one: The item that took hold of me for a long time is definitely the 1951 Bing Crosby Tuxedo. Like I mentioned earlier, I want the special stuff, clothing that is in no need for introduction, that stands it’s own.
To claim I’m an LVC collector it was not possible to not have a suit such as the Bing Crosby Tuxedo. Since two months I have the tux in my collection, but It took me over two years to get it. I don’t make that kind of money that I could buy the jacket when it was in store, €1500,- and also not when it went on sale with 50%…So I searched for it whenever I was on Ebay, and sometimes there was one on but it still went for €900,-… In this case Instagram lent me a helping hand. Via Instagram I get a lot of offers from guys who want to sell stuff to me, and that is how I got the jacket. A dude who sold me a Type 1 (506XX) jacket introduces me to another guy who also had a lot of LVC stuff lying around and in his treasure chest was also the 1951 Tuxedo. I did not hesitate for one moment and grabbed it while it was still hot! The matching jeans I already scored via the Stylecreep outlet on Ebay for a small price. Finally I can rest easily, but there is still stuff out there that needs to be in my wardrobe.
Which item would you add to your collection (wishlist): Maybe via this post I can obtain it, so if someone is reading this who has this jacket. Please give me call ;).
It’s the LVC 1878 Triple Pleated Blouse Rooftop (see photo ). This is one hell of a jacket that I never come across. In my collection I have three triple pleated jackets, but they do not come close of this beast. I also need it to match my LVC 1933 501’s that they used underneath the jacket for the look book.
Where do you get your daily inspiration from? I draw a lot of inspiration from movies. Just the other day I was watching 1990’s IT. The way those kids are dressed up is just fire. Also the film Stand by me (1986) or Escape from Alcatraz (1979). And this is stuff I recently watched. Hank Williams was a sharp dressed man, off course Dylan knows how to deliver.
But Instagram also inspires me, I follow a lot of cool guys and girls who have better taste then me, and I can only envy the places they go to.
What’s your favorite inspiration quote: “You can’t fake true cool” by Bob Dylan.
