Travelling Around The World In Search For Original Vintage Denim

Denim multitasker Mohsin Sajid from Endrime combines his design work with being active as a denim historian, and collector. For his denim projects, he’s traveling all around the world to find top class vintage denim garments. He’s using these inspirational pieces to study the past, and combine these elements in new modern developments. Nowadays his archive has grown into a more than 1.000+ garments collection.

Most of his rare collection pieces date back to the early 1930s. They’re so valuable and interesting to use during his denim history lessons for students, next to his denim projects for brands, and mills.

Traveling Frequently To Pakistan

For the last 8 years, Mohsin has been traveling frequently to Pakistan, working with some of the world’s best denim mills and manufacturers. It’s been eye-opening to see how they’re working. But, also what can be found as it comes to vintage denim treasures. He discovered some of the vintage garments where denim designers are looking for while going to LA, Bangkok, or Tokyo for example.

Artistic Fabric Mills

During his latest trips to Pakistan, to visit one of his clients, Artistic Fabric Mills in Karachi, Pakistan, he found a very exciting piece. Artistic Fabric Mills is a top-notch player in the industry as it comes to shredding old denim into new PCW yarn.

Finding An Original Levi’s Type 1 Jacket

While being there, Mohsin asked if he could see one of their shredding, recycling plants. When entering the plant he jumped on the big piles of denim and began to search, hoping he could find something interesting. Soon, just after a minute of 15 or 20, he recognized an outstanding fabric from a sleeve of a denim jacket.

He pulled the jacket out of the pile as he immediately saw it was something special, and it was. He found an original 1937 Levi’s Type 1 (506XX) Jacket! So, the jacket was saved moments from being shredded into PCW yarn. A great addition, and a super nice story, to add on his denim archive.

Hunting Denim Video

Mohsin created a video where he’s telling this story, but also a very interesting fact that a lot of vintage denim can be found in Pakistan these days. How this comes you have to watch the video which he made for Farah Iqbal from Artistic Fabric Mills. It takes you on Mohsin’s hunting journey, and it shares the denim story and links to Pakistan after WW2.
