Want Show Laundry
The first story of the ‘Out of Fashion’ since 1905 trilogy by Red Wing Shoes is about Wan-ji and Sho-er, aka Mr. and Mrs. Chang. This lovely 80+ years old couple is owning a laundry in Taiwan. The first video story is called ‘Want Show Laundry’, named after their laundry shop.
A Small Laundry Shop
The husband-and-wife owners of Want Show laundry in Taiwan are running for years a small laundry shop in the bustling streets of Taichung. They have a successful business, but there’s one small ”downside”, as over the years hundreds of pieces of clothing have been forgotten at the shop. And, with this aspect, hundreds of bills have been left unpaid of all these years.
But, they came up with a very creative and strong idea with the help of their grandchildren. They’re modeling all these forgotten laundries and posting them on their social media. This with the goal that the owners are remembered to pick their laundry up. A unique way of paying attention to the forgotten laundry.
Giving Forgotten Items A Second Life
Nowadays their closets are filled with these forgotten items. In the meantime, they repaired them and they’re wearing them to give these items a second life. It’s not a set-up plan to be active in sustainable popularity, but it has grown naturally over the years. It became their way of life!
To spread their message, and their idea, to a wider audience the couple has set-up the Want Show Laundry Redefine Project. This project unites Taiwan’s laundromats to create a central platform for selling long-forgotten items of clothing. All the proceeds of this project are going towards unpaid cleaning bills for each laundromat, with any additional dollars funding other charitable causes in Taiwan.
Timeless Designs
As the couple-styled outfits are having a timeless approach, they were the perfect match to team-up with Red Wing Shoes. To share their unique story they’re wearing the classic Moc Toe’s, one of the most beloved styles of the American footwear brand. And, which withstand the test of time, just as the outfits of the laundry shop. So, a natural match.
In the video, they’re sharing their story, same as their iconic styled silhouettes, and of course, the Moc Toe boots. Both are getting better with age, proper care, and repair. And, above all, the boots are matching perfectly with each outfit.
