A Retail Revolution

When Fred Segal opened the doors of their 300 sq. foot store in 1961 they started a retail revolution. Their store was since its beginning focused on denim, mostly premium denim. Just four years after their opening they launched their Jean Bar in 1965. Now, years later they relaunched it with a focus on emerging brands, sustainable production, and just the right fits. You can also shop at the Jean Bar online with brands such as Boyish, Closed, Eb Deni, Good American, Jeanerica, Knorts Knit Denim, and Re/Done to name a few.

The Start Of Fred Segal

Fred Segal was founded by Fred Segal in 1961 and earned the nickname ‘curator of cool’ soon after the opening of his first store. He came up with the brilliant idea of starting a denim bar selling the typical American style. Nowadays they’re also designing and selling their own collection. They pioneered the shop-in-shop concept and experiential retail, resulting in a brand built on heritage, inclusivity, and love.

Despite the brand’s long-running success, its legacy is sustained by always staying ahead. In addition to the innovative lines launched in their stores, every year they collaborate with designers, artists, and emerging brands to create unique capsules, cultural conversations, and immersive experiences. Now owned by Jeff Lotman, CEO of Global Icons, Fred Segal opened its Sunset Boulevard Flagship in 2018 and has since expanded to Malibu, Asia, and Europe.

The founder, Fred Segal, died in February of 2021. They honor Fred’s continuing legacy by always offering an unparalleled retail experience, such as the opening of the Original Jean Bar.
