Studio D’Artisan 40th Anniversary Crazy Jeans & Jacket
This year Japanese denim brand Studio D’Artisan is celebrating their 40th anniversary. Started in 1979 and part of the Osaka 5 group, together with Evisu, Denime, Fullcount, and Warehouse, they’re the cornerstones of the Japanese denim culture. For the Studio D’Artisan anniversary, they will launch a Crazy denim set, a pair of jeans and jacket. You can now pre-order them online at Okayama Denim.
The Crazy denim set is a sort of tribute to Levi’s and Lee as both items are made with half Levi’s and half Lee specifications. Evisu Europe made also tribute pieces to the Big 3, Levi’s, Lee and Wrangler, around 10 years ago. You can read about these specials here.
Studio D’Artisan SP-053 40th Anniversary Suvin Gold ‘Crazy’ Jeans
The Crazy anniversary jeans is slim tapered and made of 15oz. unsanforized Japanese selvedge denim fabric. It’s a classic 5-pocket with a four buttons fly featuring original Studio D’Artisan buttons. The jeans have heavy duck canvas pocket bags and engraved copper rivets.
What makes these jeans crazy is the fact that one part of the jeans is made with typical Levi’s right-hand fabric and the other side with Lee’s left-hand fabric. It has also two coin pockets, so on each side one, with the two typical brand’s shapes and rivets. On the backside are also the Levi’s and Lee shaped pockets with pocket flashers. Both back pockets have the Studio D’Artisan arcuate stitches. And on the waistband is the Levi’s look cowhide leather patch, while on the other side the Lee hair-on-hide patch is used.
Studio D’Artisan SP-055 40th Anniversary Suvin Gold ‘Crazy’ Denim Jacket
The Crazy celebration jacket is crazy as it’s made of two different classic denim jacket designs. One side of the jacket is taken from a Levi’s 507XX – Type 2 jacket, while the other side is the legendary Lee Rider style. Same as the jeans the jacket is made with 15oz. unsanforized selvedge denim fabric. The fit of the jacket is slim fit.
The buttons on the jacket are black coated. On the inside at the closure, and on inside of the back of the jacket, they used the redline selvage line. The Levi’s Type 2 side had the typical flap chest pocket, and the Lee side the shield-shaped pocket and zigzag stitching at the closure. On the back of the jacket is a hair-on-hide Studio D’Artisan leather patch.
