The Butts And Shoulders Combat Boots
Today, I’m proudly announce that I worked with the Dutch Butts and Shoulders brand on a collaboration. The brand is producing high-quality made leather styles in Portugal, mainly focussed on footwear. Now, we came together to develop an unique version of the legendary military Combat boots style.
The boots are now ready to order here!
The Origin Of The Combat Boots
The new Butts and Shoulders Combat boots are inspired by the army jungle boots that were originally introduced in 1962 as a follow-up on the first editions that saw light in the Vietnam War in 1945. While the first editions were made of canvas and rubber, the second editions were made of OG-107 heavy canvas. The OG-107 number refers to the Olive Green (OG) of the fabric and the 107 is the original color code the US Army used.
In 1962, the improved versions of the Jungle boots were tested by the US Army, but it finally was adopted by the U.S. military as the ‘M-1966 Jungle Boot‘ in 1966.
The boots were made of a combination of leather and thick canvas, so more lightweight than full leather boots. But, the boots were still very durable and made to wear to walk long distances in all kinds of conditions. Originally, the Jungle boots in the army had specific features a military needs to do his work properly, but we skipped these to make them more modern to use every day as a casual pair of boots.
The Specifications Of The Combat Boots
The Butts and Shoulders Combat boots are made for men that like to wear a sturdy pair of boots that stand the test of time. A pair that will only get better with age when they get older. Just like the originals, the Combats boots are made to walk, when the sun is out, or raining cats and dogs, or even in snowy conditions, they will not let you down. In fact, these conditions will give them extra character as our natural vegetable-tanned leather will age with a nice patina. The more you wear them, the more beautiful they will get.
Next to the natural vegetable-tanned leather, the Combat boots are made with heavy canvas. The canvas will soften with use and will shape more around your feet when using. Its made with recycled cotton from Turkey mixed with Lenzing Ecovero viscose from a Spanish manufacturer. The Lenzing Ecovero fibers are certified with the EU Ecolabel.
The canvas is waxed so ready to wear since day one. Just like the leather. So, unbox your boots and you’re ready to go on adventure.
The boots are 8,5″ high and made with last width 8. Each pair of Combat boots will be delivered with a second pair of laces, so you can choose the best option yourself in your opinion. Next to that, it’s always good to have a spare pair of laces, right?!
Each Pair Is Hand-Numbered
The Butts and Shoulders Combat boots are developed together with yours truly, Wouter Munnichs, the founder of this online denim magazine. Together we embrace authenticity and durable crafted goods. So, joining together felt like a natural step. Also, we both share our passion for durable handmade boots. And nothing goes better hand in hand than denim and leather boots.
To celebrate the collaboration between the both of us, we decided to hand number the first 62 pairs that will be sold. This is a sort of homage to 1962 when the original Jungle boots were introduced in the army that we used as inspiration for the Combat boots. Next to the unique number, both the names Butts and Shoulders as Long John will be embossed on the tongue of the boots.
