Mud Jeans x Van Gogh Museum
Dutch circular denim brand Mud Jeans collaborates with the Van Gogh Museum for an exciting capsule collection. The collection is made of recycled denim and contains several styles for women and men. All the Mud Jeans items for this collection are lasered and feature hand-written sentences from the world-famous painter Vincent van Gogh.
Vincent van Gogh lived from the 30th of March 1853 until the 29th of July 1890. He was a Dutch ost-impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.
The Capsule Collection
Within the Mud Jeans x Van Gogh Museum collection are several jeans styles, denim jackets, a kimono, a sleeveless denim vest, a worker apron, and bags. All these items are made with inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s letters, handwriting, and various works. So, each style tells a unique story!
The Van Rope jacket is inspired by a classic kimono style, while the Van Wilma jeans feature an all-over print with lasered sentences in Van Gogh’s handwriting. The design of the Van Tyler jacket goes a step further, it has the handwriting, but also an orange embroidery with the painter’s famous self-portrait.
The two tote bags in this capsule collection can both be used as backpacks as well, so usage in two ways. Another women’s style in the collection is the sleeveless biker vest Van Vest. This vest is made with a beautiful embroidered Almond Blossom back print.
Good to know, that both the aprons and bags are exclusively available at the Van Gogh Museum shop in Amsterdam.
Mud Jeans Works On A Brighter Tomorrow
The Mud Jeans x Van Gogh capsule collection is based on a quote from Van Gogh’s preserved letters to his brother Theo: ‘Having hope for better times should not be a feeling, but doing something in the present‘. Van Gogh wrote this quote in 1883, a message that Mud Jeans fully endorses.
Mud Jeans is the world’s first fully circular denim brand and wants future generations to enjoy this planet as much as we do today. In a previous article, you could already read and watch how they created the world’s first 100% post-consumer pair of jeans. In case you have missed it, check it out here!
Taking the next step is in the DNA of the Mud Jeans brand, as every pair contains 40% post-consumer recycled cotton and after wearing Mud Jeans also gives consumers the option to return the worn jeans free of charge. These returned jeans then become new jeans. The brand also ensures a fair and safe production process with partners and they use Cradle2Cradle indigo dye. It is known that it takes 7,000 liters to produce one pair of jeans, which is why the Mud Jeans factory recycles 95% of the water used in the production process.
Doing Something Good For The Planet
A good example is that Mud Jeans is here to make that extra denim mile, earlier this year, they appealed to send old jeans to them free of charge or to hand them over to the Van Gogh Museum. One of the partners of the Mud Jeans brand, denim specialist Calik Denim from Turkey, turned these old jeans into a new denim fabric that consists of 30% hemp, 20% post-consumer recycled cotton, and 50% organic cotton.
