A Classic Style For Men
The Stronghold brand made a classic denim work vest for men. It’s produced in Los Angeles, just as they did when they started back in 1895. A style that is a favorite by many, which can also be worn in different ways. Especially during colder days, it’s perfect for layering with a shirt or sweat.
Some Highlighted Details
The denim work vest is made of a fine 10.5oz indigo selvedge fabric. Even in the neck, there’s a small selvedge piece as label detail. It’s pre-washed to soften the fabric and remove shrinkage. It is stitched with a contract brown thread. For the rivets, they used copper versions. And, three-piece steel and copper tack buttons.
A Brief History Of The Brand
The Stronghold brand was founded in 1895 and their garments were worn by workers and farmers from day one. They were the first branded apparel to be manufactured in Los Angeles, and they were the only makers of denim and canvas workwear there until after the second world war.
In 1908, the mascot of The Stronghold was first introduced in advertisements. His name was “Stronghold Steve” and he would appear on labels and buttons used on Stronghold workwear in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.
By 1912, The Stronghold brand employed over one thousand workers in downtown Los Angeles, making them the largest manufacturer of clothing in Southern California. They made clothing for men, woman, and children and introduced casual clothing categories including outerwear, dress shirts and trousers along with their well known jeans and overalls.
The original Stronghold company closed its doors in the late 1950s. Fifty years later, a vintage clothing collector showed the Stronghold’s soon-to-be new owner what remained of a pair of Stronghold jeans that had been found in an abandoned silver mine in California’s Mojave desert. The Stronghold brand was relaunched in 2004.
