Original Vintage Levi’s 507XX (Type 2) Jacket
Highlighted is an original vintage Levi’s Jeans 507XX (also known as Type 2) ‘Big E’ jacket from my private denim collection. The Levi’s Jeans 507XX jacket was introduced in 1953 as the follow up on the 506XX (Type 1) jacket. This 507XX denim jacket style was produced until 1962.
The Selvage Fabric And Button Number
The 507XX jacket has a selvage redline inside at the closure which disappeared at the follow-up jacket. The red in the selvage is totally washed-out due the many washes of the jacket during all the years. You see this a lot at old denim pieces. On the back of the buttons, the#o is stamped, which means that this particular denim jacket was produced in the early 1960s. Earlier versions of this jacket feature the number #17 on the back. And a leather patch instead of the so-called Jacron (paper) patch.
Icons Wearing Double Denim
This Levi’s 507XX jacket style is one of my favorites as it refers to the ‘Golden Period’ in the denim industry. During the 1950’s, the denim industry exploded as denim became more mainstream as movie stars as Marlon Brando and James Dean were wearing denim outfits in the now cult films. Also, the rock and roll era was started in the early 1950’s. Elvis Presley for example was also spotted in double denim outfits many times. Also, in particular wearing this denim jacket style. These icons were very important ambassadors for the denim industry as they were a huge style and inspiration source for the youth.
Good Condition After Almost 70 Years
After almost 70 years, this original Levi’s ‘Big E’ 507XX denim jacket is still in a very good condition. A true classic design that changed the denim industry. This particular denim jacket style is still produced by many brands today.
